Atlanta-based rapper YFN Lucci, born Rayshawn Bennett, has decided to decline a 20-year plea deal proposed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Instead, Lucci has chosen to proceed with a trial related to RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) charges. This move comes in light of concerns about potential taunting similar to what another rapper, Gunna, has faced after accepting a plea deal.
According to reports, the plea deal offered by the District Attorney’s office required Lucci to plead guilty to felony murder, racketeering, aggravated assault, and violation of the street gang terrorism and prevention act. However, Lucci’s legal team, consisting of attorneys Drew Findling and Gabe Banks, has expressed their disagreement with the terms, describing them as “absurd.”
Lucci’s attorneys have also observed what they perceive as intentional delays by the District Attorney’s office. Despite spending over two and a half years in police custody, Lucci is still awaiting his trial. Findling and Banks have criticized the District Attorney’s focus on “newer, high-profile cases,” which they believe has monopolized the court’s resources, diverting attention away from Lucci’s case.
Findling and Banks further accuse the Fulton County District Attorney of lacking the ability to handle complex cases effectively. While this may present a challenging situation for Lucci and his legal team, they remain resolute in their pursuit of justice. They assert their readiness and preparedness to defend against what they deem to be false allegations against their client, Mr. Bennett.
