NBC News reported that the administration is struggling to clearly communicate what type of masks people should be wearing amid a surge of omicron. As a result, the White House will make 400 million N95 masks available for free at thousands of locations across the country.
White House officials said Wednesday, January 19, 2022, as health experts stress the importance of high-quality face coverings to protect against the omicron variant of the coronavirus. The White House plans are to work with pharmacies and community health centers to distribute the nonsurgical masks that will come from the Strategic National Stockpile.
They will begin shipping the masks this week and hopes to have the program fully operational by early February 2022, the White House officials said.
