Two Tremonton police officers were shot and killed Sunday night while responding to a domestic disturbance call. A third officer, a sheriff’s deputy, was wounded but released from the hospital Monday. His K-9 partner remains in fair condition.
The fallen officers were identified as Sgt. Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada of the Tremonton-Garland Police Department.
Authorities said the suspect opened fire as officers arrived at the home. After bystanders convinced him to drop his weapon, he was taken into custody and booked on aggravated murder charges. His name has not been released.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox called the incident “a terrible and tragic night,” while law enforcement leaders described Sorensen and Estrada as heroes who gave their lives protecting the community.
