Usher, the renowned pop and R&B artist, recently responded to criticism on Twitter from a user who claimed he didn’t have enough “pop/hip hop hits” to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. While some Twitter users agreed, citing his lack of crossover hits, many fans came to his defense, highlighting his extensive discography and versatility as an artist.
In fact, earlier this year, Usher was a top choice in an online debate about who should headline Super Bowl LVIII. Despite some reservations about his crossover appeal, the majority of people seemed to be on his side. Responding to the calls to perform at the Super Bowl, Usher said he’d be down to do it, citing his extensive catalog of hits that “speaks for itself.”
“I think I have a catalog that obviously speaks for itself,” Usher told Access. “So, to be able to celebrate on that day…it’s obviously about football, but everybody really anticipates the performance… So, it has always been kind of a bucket list dream of mine.”
What do you think? Do you believe Usher has what it takes to headline a Super Bowl halftime show?
