In a bold statement made aboard Air Force One, Donald Trump declared that the United States will not enter into any trade agreement with China until the nation’s staggering trade deficit… exceeding $1 trillion… is fully addressed
Speaking to reporters, Trump emphasized the urgent need to correct the massive imbalance in trade, citing China as the most significant contributor to the U.S.’s economic losses.
“We’re losing hundreds of billions every year to China. The total deficit has soared past a trillion dollars… and unless that’s fixed, there’s no deal,” Trump stated firmly. “I’m open to negotiating, but only if China takes real steps to correct this outrageous surplus.”
Trump pointed out that his administration’s tariffs have already spurred over $7 trillion in committed investments across American industries like auto manufacturing and semiconductor production… industries he claims are thriving due to his tough stance on trade.
While Trump noted that several European and Asian leaders are eager to ink trade deals with the U.S., he made it clear that any agreement will hinge on achieving balanced trade.
“A trade deficit is a loss,” Trump explained. “We’re either going to have surpluses, or at the very least, break even. China, unfortunately, tops the list in trade abuse… and that’s not something we can continue to tolerate.”
