Trippie Redd recently shared his views in response to a tweet from Spotify’s Head of Urban Music, Carl Chery. Chery expressed the need for new leaders in hip-hop who can shape the direction of the music and culture. Trippie Redd agreed with Chery’s sentiment, acknowledging that the rap community has allowed country and Spanish music to dominate, partly due to internal divisions.
Carl Chery wrote, “Hip-Hop needs new leaders who are intentional about dictating where the music and culture are going. It feels like artists either don’t think about it or don’t want that responsibility. We need it tho. Who’s gonna step up?”
Trippie Redd responded by saying, “He right. we gone bounce back tho. We let country and Spanish music take over cuz we, too divided. That sh*** lame as f***.
In recent months, the popularity of country and Latin music has surged, resulting in rap artists struggling to secure the top spot on the Billboard charts. Notably, Morgan Wallen’s album “One Thing at a Time” has claimed the number one position for 13 non-consecutive weeks in 2023. Additionally, non-rap albums like K-pop group Stray Kids’ “5-Star” and SZA’s “SOS” have also achieved top rankings.
Latin artists such as Karol G, Bad Bunny, and Peso Pluma continue to enjoy immense popularity. In contrast, Trippie Redd’s own album, “Mansion Musik,” released in January, debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, with approximately 56,000 album-equivalent units sold.
