A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Mexico when a 14-year-old boy was fatally attacked by crocodiles after accidentally slipping into a canal while walking with his family.
The incident occurred in Lázaro Cárdenas, a town on Mexico’s Pacific coast, on Friday. The young victim, identified as Andres Alejandro Santana Hernandez, was pulled into the murky waters by crocodiles before his family could intervene.
According to local reports, crocodile-infested rivers and canals in the region are known danger zones, with multiple fatal attacks recorded each year. This latest Jim incident has prompted urgent safety warnings from local authorities, urging both residents and tourists to stay away from canal edges and remain alert around known crocodile habitats.
Police divers have been deployed to search the area, although it is not yet confirmed whether Andres’ remains have been recovered.
Officials believe the attack may have involved a Morelet’s crocodile… an aggressive species native to Mexico. Although typically found along the Atlantic coast, these reptiles can weigh up to 400 pounds and grow to over 9 feet long. With an estimated population of up to 100,000 across Mexico, Morelet’s crocodiles are known to be opportunistic and dangerous to humans. At least 12 deaths have been attributed to them in recent years.
