A heartbreaking disaster has unfolded off the coast of Yemen, where a boat packed with migrants… mostly from Ethiopia… tragically sank in the Gulf of Aden. According to Yemeni officials, at least 76 bodies have been recovered, and more than 30 survivors have been pulled from the wreckage. Dozens more remain missing.
The vessel was carrying 157 people when it went down near Abyan governorate in southern Yemen… a known hub for human smuggling routes across the Arabian Sea. Migrants often brave these deadly waters, risking everything for a chance to reach wealthier Gulf nations.
Some of the survivors have been taken to the port city of Aden for medical attention and further assistance, authorities said. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) initially reported 68 deaths, but the toll has since risen as recovery efforts continue.
This incident marks yet another grim reminder of the growing migrant crisis and the dangers faced by those seeking better lives across treacherous waters.
