A devastating accident in upstate New York claimed several lives Friday after a packed tour bus carrying more than 50 people lost control and overturned on the New York State Thruway, according to state police.
The bus, returning to New York City from Niagara Falls, veered eastbound near Pembroke… about 30 miles northeast of Buffalo. Authorities say the vehicle suddenly swerved into the median before overcorrecting and flipping into a roadside ditch.
“There were multiple fatalities, multiple injuries, and several people trapped inside the wreckage,” said State Trooper James O’Callaghan. At least one child was reported among the victims.
The bus had 52 passengers, including the driver, police confirmed. Emergency crews rushed dozens of injured individuals to nearby hospitals. Erie County Medical Center reported treating 24 victims, with two undergoing surgery and two listed in intensive care.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. No other vehicles were involved.
