Tory Lanez, the rapper currently behind bars for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, was reportedly stabbed during a violent incident at a California state prison on Monday.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is serving a decade-long sentence at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi when the attack occurred around 7:20 a.m., according to a statement from the state’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesperson, Pedro Calderon Michel.
Although prison officials did not confirm the exact nature of the injuries, multiple reports indicate that Lanez was the victim of a stabbing. Correctional staff acted quickly, providing emergency medical assistance before he was transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment.
The prison’s internal investigative team has launched a formal probe, with assistance from the Kern County District Attorney’s Office to determine what led to the assault and who was responsible.
Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted in December 2022 on three felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic weapon, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and reckless discharge of a firearm. These charges stem from the high-profile shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020, which shook the hip-hop world.
