Tory Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence following his conviction in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case, has lodged an ethics complaint against his former attorney, Shawn Holley.
The complaint, submitted to the California State Bar, accuses Holley of failing to prioritize his defense due to alleged ties with Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by JAY-Z, which represents Megan.
Lanez claims that Holley’s connection to Roc Nation created a conflict of interest during his defense, pointing to her involvement in the Hulu series Reasonable Doubt as evidence.
The series, inspired by Holley’s legal career, features her as a producer, and it notably includes songs by Beyoncé and Megan, including the hit “Savage (Remix).” Additionally, Holley’s daughter, who has performed as a backup singer for Beyoncé, has music featured in the show.
In the complaint, Lanez alleges that Roc Nation’s CEO, Desiree Perez, actively supported Megan during her interactions with law enforcement regarding the shooting incident.
He further contends that Holley’s actions, including allegedly discouraging a DNA expert from testing the gun involved, undermined his defense. Lanez believes Holley was influenced by Roc Nation’s interests and wanted him to accept a plea deal, which he refused.
He also claims that Holley withdrew from his case following unsubstantiated bribery accusations from a witness, which he suspects was a strategic move to exit the defense.
Lanez is now calling for disciplinary action against Holley for alleged ethical violations and is seeking reimbursement for the substantial legal fees he paid her, which reportedly amounted to nearly $300,000.
Holley left Lanez’s defense team just five days before he was found guilty of the charges related to the July 2020 incident involving Megan Thee Stallion.
