Oakland is mourning the tragic loss of Wayne Shaw, the older brother of hip-hop legend Too $hort, who was fatally shot in East Oakland during an attempted dispensary robbery.
According to Oakland police, the 61-year-old was gunned down on Wednesday (January 29) while confronting a group of suspects trying to force their way into a cannabis dispensary.
Reports indicate that Shaw stepped outside to intervene as the culprits attempted to ram a vehicle through the entrance.
“The suspects arrived at the location and attempted to force their way in,” Oakland Police Department Lt. Gloria Beltran stated. “As they were making their way inside, the victim stepped out and was confronted. The suspects then fired multiple rounds at the victim.”
The assailants quickly fled the scene, leaving Shaw critically wounded. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead. Authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with the crime.
Too $hort has not yet made a public statement regarding his brother’s passing. The hip-hop community and fans alike are sending their condolences as the rapper and his family navigate this devastating loss.
Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. As the investigation continues, Oakland authorities are working to bring justice for Shaw and his loved ones.
