Have you ever felt like your head was going to explode? Or like a marching band is marching through your head? If that is the case, you probably have a migraine. Migraines are recurring headaches. The pain is often on one side of your head. There can also be other symptoms, such as nausea and weakness. The pain from a migraine can be moderate or severe pain that is pulsing or beating. Migraine pain occurs when excited brain cells trigger the trigeminal nerve, one of five nerves located in the brain to release chemicals that irritate and cause blood vessels on the surface of the brain to swell, according to the National Headache Foundation. The swollen blood vessels send pain signals to the brainstem, which processes pain information. If you’re like most, you are probably saying why do I keep getting these migraine headaches? Well, to be honest, there are a number of reasons as to why some people get migraines. Here’s a list of things that can trigger migraines. Keep in mind, these vary from person to person.
Things that may be triggering your migraines:
• Caffeine or caffeine withdrawal
• Stress
• Anxiety
• Certain foods
• Medications that cause a swelling of the blood vessels

Most migraine sufferers… 70 to 80 percent of them have a family history of migraines. If you suffer from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, sleep disorders, you are more likely to get migraines. There are many ways to treat a migraine.
How to treat a migraine:
Acupressure: Acupressure involves stimulating specific points of the body. One popular pressure point is the LI-4 point in the space between the base of the left thumb and pointer finger. Apply firm non-painful pressure to the LI-4 point, using the opposite hand for five minutes, may relieve headache pain.

• Essential oils: Essential oils are often used as natural remedies. Lavender is an essential oil that is often used as a remedy for stress, anxiety, and headaches.
• Stress management: Stress is a common trigger of migraines. Meditation is a very good way of managing your body for stress. Try taking a warm bath or listening to music to relieve some of your stress.
• Yoga: Yoga is a good way to get the blood flowing throughout the body, to help relieve some of the tension you may be feeling.
• Acupuncture: People who are interested in using acupuncture for migraines should make sure to find a licensed practitioner for treatment.
• Massage: You can massage the muscles behind the neck and shoulders to help relieve tension and alleviate the pain caused by a migraine.
• Stay hydrated: If you’re not drinking enough water during the day. You are more than likely dehydrating your body. Not drinking enough water is a well-known migraine and headache trigger.
• Rest: Not getting enough sleep can trigger migraines. The human body needs seven to nine hours of sleep to have a better chance of preventing a migraine.
