The Yellow-edged Giant Owl butterfly (Caligo Atreus) is a beautiful butterfly with a distinctive iridescent dark blue gradient on its dorsal. The hind wings have a bright yellow coloration that contrasts but blends well with the forewings.
These beautiful butterflies can be found in Mexico to Peru. They spend most of their time basking in the shade or consuming fruits. Yellow-edged Giant Owl butterflies are very large, with a wingspan of about 140-160mm. They fly only a few meters at a time.
