In a recent interview with W Magazine, Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, dropped a bombshell by hinting at his plans to retire his stage name after his next album. The Canadian singer-songwriter admitted that he is on a cathartic path and wants to shed his musical persona.
Tesfaye explained that he’s preparing to close the chapter on The Weeknd and will still continue making music, possibly under his given name. He wants to “kill The Weeknd” and be reborn. The artist also revealed that his upcoming album will be his last as The Weeknd and that he’s already said everything he can say under that name.
Fans have been speculating about the artist’s new trilogy after the release of his latest album, Dawn FM, in January 2022. Many believe that the next album could be titled After Life, based on the lyrics of “Every Angel is Terrifying” from Dawn FM.
The Weeknd is releasing new music supporting his upcoming HBO series, The Idol, including the recent single “Double Fantasy” with Future. During a surprise Coachella performance, he also announced that more music would appear on a companion project titled The Idol Vol. 1.
