The US has offered Russia a rare contract deal for Brittney Griner, and Paul Whelan. This deal will bring Brittney Griner back to the US. Brittney has been locked up since February and will now go home to her family.
Griner, who plays for the WNBA, was arrested in Moscow on drug-related chargers. Griner, if convicted, was facing 10 years in a Russian prison. Griner and another jailed American, Paul Whelan, will be set free, Secretary of State Antony Bliken said on Wednesday.
Bliken did not offer any other details on their proposed deal. However, according to AP, Bliken said that Washington would like a response from Moscow. Russia has expressed that they would like Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer, released from prison. Bout was once labeled the “Merchant of Death” and was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2012.
