The Silver-washed Fritillary (Argynnis Paphia) is a beautiful orange and black spotted butterfly found in Algeria, Europe, Temperate Asia, and Japan. They have a 54-70mm wingspan, with the males being smaller and paler than the females.
Male Silver-washed Fritillary butterflies possess scented scales on the upper side of the forewing that runs along veins one to four. They use their scent to attract female Silver-washed Fritillary and to hide from other species.
When it’s time to feed, they love the nectar of bramble, thistles, knapweed, and aphid honeydew. Their preferred habitat is sunny woodland and especially oak woodlands. They occasionally use mixed broadleaved and conifer plantations.
