The Luna moth (Actias Luna) is a Nearctic moth in the family Saturniidae, a group known as Giant Silk moths. The Luna moth is also known as the American Moon moth. They have a wingspan of 4.5 – 7.0 inches. Making it one of the larger moths in North America. Their elongated tails of the hindwings are to confuse the echolocation detection used by predatory bats. The Luna moth feeds on different species of broadleaf trees. What a beautiful moth, almost like a fairytale.
