The Grecian Shoemaker butterfly (Catonephele Numilia), also known as Blue-Frosted Catone, Blue-Frosted Banner, or Stoplight Catone, is a beautiful butterfly in the Nymphalidae family found in Central and South America.
Grecian Shoemaker butterflies have a wingspan of 65-80mm. Males perch on tree trunks and rock faces, often in a head-downward posture. They also bask on foliage or on fallen branches in light gaps.
Females are scarcer and usually seen when searching for oviposition sites along forest trails. However, they can occasionally be seen basking on sunlit paths.
