A North Texas mother is speaking publicly for the first time after losing all three of her sons in a devastating winter accident that unfolded in seconds.
Cheyenne Hangaman told local reporters that the tragedy began when her 6-year-old son slipped into a frozen pond near their home. Seeing him struggle, his two older brothers… ages 8 and 9… ran in after him, determined to help.
“They were trying to save each other,” Hangaman said through tears. “Howard went under first, and the other two jumped in after him.”
The mother raced toward the pond and leapt into the freezing water herself. “It was me against all three of them needing help at once,” she said. “I was trying to save them while trying to stay alive.”
A nearby high school football coach also entered the water in an attempt to rescue the boys. Eventually, a neighbor was able to pull Hangaman out, but the children could not be saved.
The story has shaken the community and drawn national attention, highlighting both the dangers of icy water and the powerful bond between siblings who refused to leave one another behind.
