A string of Tesla charging stations in Massachusetts went up in flames in what authorities are calling an act of arson. Law enforcement and fire officials are now searching for the culprit behind the destructive blaze.
The fire erupted just after 1 a.m. on Monday at The Point Shopping Center on Constitution Avenue in Littleton, Massachusetts. Emergency responders rushed to the scene following reports of a fire at a Tesla Supercharger station, according to an official statement from law enforcement.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered multiple charging units engulfed in flames, with thick, dark smoke billowing into the night sky. In total, seven Tesla superchargers sustained severe damage before crews managed to extinguish the fire.
To prevent further hazards, the Littleton Electric Light & Water Department swiftly cut power to the affected charging units. After the fire was brought under control, the Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigation Unit, under the State Fire Marshal’s office, joined local authorities in assessing the scene.
“Based on evidence collected, investigators have determined that this fire was deliberately set,” the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services confirmed in a statement.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, officials are actively searching for the individual responsible for the arson, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Tesla has not yet issued a statement regarding the attack.
As electric vehicle infrastructure expands nationwide, incidents like these raise concerns about the security of public charging stations. Law enforcement agencies are treating this case as a serious criminal act and are working to track down those behind the attack.
Authorities have not yet identified a suspect or a motive. The investigation remains ongoing.
