What started out as something to do for fun, turned into a bidding war between 19-year-old Jack Sweeney and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Sweeney developed a program that’s run by bots he’s programmed to parse the data and tweet every time Elon Musk’s plane takes off or lands.
Elon Musk is not too happy about this at all. Musk is worried about his security and safety, so he decided to message Sweeney asking him to please stop tracking his travels. Sweeney sent TheStreets a copy of the conversations he had with Musk about the Musk tracker.
“Can you take this down?” Musk asked. “It is a security risk.”
“Yes I can but it’ll cost you a Model 3 only joking unless?” Sweeney replied. “I understand your concerns that are totally reasonable. I started the project in high school as I’m a huge admirer. Never intended it to be a security concern.”
“I don’t love the idea of being shot by a nutcase,” Musk said.
“Okay how about 5k for this account and generally helping making it slightly harder for people to track me?” Musk asked.
“Any chance to up that to $50k?” Sweeney replied. “It would be great support in college and would possibly allow me to get a car maybe even a Model 3.”
“Doesn’t feel right to pay to shut this down,” Musk replied.
