Yung Booke, a seasoned rapper from Atlanta, has collaborated with T.I., Killer Mike, and Skooly to create a new track called “The Real A (WHTA).” However, this isn’t the same Atlanta that was once celebrated by Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris as the “Magic City.”
In the song’s music video, directed by Zae Williams, the quartet expresses their frustration with the current state of the city, blaming non-locals for disrupting their once peaceful community.
Killer Mike reminisces about the early days of battling for territory against encroachers from Miami and recounts a story of his friend beating up an out-of-towner when he was fresh out of jail.
T.I. also adds to the discussion, rapping about the city’s expanding population and how it’s difficult to discern whether it’s due to newcomers or something else. He mentions the younger generation mixing X and Adderall with downers and how Atlanta used to have a code of conduct and an ecosystem, but now it seems to have disappeared. T.I. concludes his verse by saying how much they miss the old Atlanta.
“I can’t tell if it’s the switches or out-of-towners/A youngin’ mixing X and Adderall with all them downers/We used to have a code of conduct and ecosystem/Takin’ the time to tell ‘ol Atlanta we really miss her.”
