Federal prosecutors have revealed disturbing new details about Vance Boelter… the man accused of carrying out a violent shooting spree that left Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband dead.
According to federal court documents, Boelter allegedly texted family members just hours after the attacks, writing, “Dad went to war last night… I don’t wanna say more because I don’t wanna implicate anybody.” The message reportedly came in at approximately 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, shortly after the brutal spree that spanned four towns.
Boelter also sent an ominous message to his wife, stating, “Words are not gonna explain how sorry I am for this situation… there’s gonna be some people coming to the house armed and trigger-happy and I don’t want you guys around.”
Authorities say Boelter posed as a law enforcement officer in the early hours of the morning and targeted the residences of four different Minnesota legislators. The attacks resulted in the deaths of Rep. Hortman and her spouse, as well as injuries to another elected official and their partner.
A massive manhunt ensued, and Boelter was eventually apprehended Sunday night and taken into custody. He now faces a string of serious charges at both the state and federal levels, including two counts of murder with a firearm, two firearms violations, and two federal stalking charges.
The case has sent shockwaves through the state’s political landscape, raising urgent questions about the safety of public officials and the potential warning signs leading up to the violent outbreak.
