Hip-hop tensions are flaring as Plies’ lawsuit over alleged beat theft has sparked an explosive reaction from Soulja Boy. The Florida rapper claims that several artists, including Soulja Boy, GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B, unlawfully used elements from his song “Me & My Goons”.
The lawsuit accuses Soulja Boy’s 2010 hit “Pretty Boy Swag” of infringing on the copyright for “Me & My Goons”. It also names GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B for allegedly using a similar beat in their track “Wanna Be”, which features Cardi on the remix.
Soulja Boy didn’t hold back in his response, unleashing a fiery rant that was captured by Live Bitez. “‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is not your beat!” Soulja declared. “You wanna wait ten years to sue somebody over a beat? That is not your beat, crazy man!”
The Atlanta rapper doubled down, taking direct aim at Plies. “Change your name to ‘Lies,’ ’cause you a liar. You know that ain’t your beat, bro.” He continued, “That beat is all original music. You can only sue if somebody samples your song without clearance. This ain’t no sample!”
Soulja Boy didn’t stop there, questioning Plies’ street credibility. “I thought you was gangsta. I thought you was a goon. Now you snitching to the white man talking about, ‘He stole my beat.’ That’s police behavior. You a snitch!”
At the center of the dispute is what Plies describes as an “infrared countdown beat,” allegedly present in both “Pretty Boy Swag” and “Wanna Be.” The latter track, a collaboration between GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B, has become a fan favorite.
Producer LilJujuMadeDaBeat, who has worked with Megan but did not create the beat for “Wanna Be”, also weighed in, dismissing Plies’ claims on social media.
As the lawsuit unfolds, fans are divided, with some backing Plies for protecting his intellectual property and others siding with Soulja Boy’s defiant stance.
