Shyne is putting Funkmaster Flex on blast, calling him out as a notorious hater with a track record that stretches across hip-hop’s biggest names. The former Bad Boy artist says you don’t need to take his word for it… just ask Jay-Z, Nas, or the legions of Tupac Shakur fans who’ve witnessed Flex’s antics firsthand.
During an exclusive chat with TMZ Hip Hop, Shyne took the high road, thanking Flex for inadvertently giving him free publicity ahead of the release of his Hulu documentary, The Honorable Shyne.
However, Shyne didn’t mince words when it came to Flex’s reputation, claiming his long-standing beefs with iconic rappers like Jay, Pac, and himself reveal the DJ’s true colors.
To make his point, Shyne even dropped a few bars from Nas’ 2002 track “Purple,” featured on The Lost Tapes. Quoting the legendary lyric, Shyne recited, “The whole city is mine, prettiest Don, I don’t like the way P. Diddy did Shyne with different lawyers … why it’s mentioned in my rhymes? F** it, just an intro.”
Shyne argues that Nas’ lyrics perfectly captured the reality of his fallout with Diddy and the industry politics that followed. Ironically, Shyne now finds himself echoing Nas’ sentiments about Funkmaster Flex, a figure he believes has continually bad-mouthed some of hip-hop’s biggest legends.
Shyne’s Hulu doc promises to delve deep into his remarkable journey… from rap star to political figure… while offering fans an unfiltered perspective on some of the industry’s most talked-about feuds.
As the hype around The Honorable Shyne builds, one thing is clear: Shyne isn’t afraid to speak his truth, even if it means sparking fresh debates in the ever-dramatic world of hip-hop.
