NFL Hall of Famer and sports media personality Shannon Sharpe has officially resolved the civil rape lawsuit filed against him, according to a statement released by the accuser’s attorney, Tony Buzbee.
Buzbee shared the update on Instagram, stating that “after extensive and respectful negotiations,” both parties have reached a mutual settlement agreement. While specific terms remain confidential, the case is now dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.
The woman, identified as Jane Doe, initially filed the lawsuit in April 2025, accusing Sharpe of repeated sexual assaults during a toxic relationship that allegedly began after the two met at a Los Angeles gym in 2023. She claimed Sharpe was emotionally manipulative and verbally abusive throughout their time together.
Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, Buzbee released an audio recording in which a man… allegedly Sharpe… appears to make disturbing threats toward the woman. Sharpe vehemently denied the accusations at the time, calling the case a “shakedown” and vowing to pursue legal action for defamation.
“I know my fans and family see this for what it is,” Sharpe said back in April. “I’ve always been transparent, and I’ll continue to speak my truth. Thank you all for the continued support.”
At this time, Sharpe’s legal team has not issued a comment regarding the settlement.
