Shakira’s highly anticipated return to the stage has hit yet another snag… this time in Washington, D.C. The global superstar was scheduled to headline a major performance at Nationals Park on Saturday, May 31, as part of WorldPride celebrations, but the show has been abruptly canceled, making it her third show to be called off in just a few days.
The cancellation follows two back-to-back scrapped performances at Boston’s Fenway Park earlier in the week. Shakira was set to perform there on Thursday and Friday, but local authorities halted the events after a routine inspection revealed structural safety concerns with the stage setup.
Now, those Boston issues appear to be triggering a chain reaction. According to Nationals Park officials, the logistics of moving Shakira’s full tour production to D.C. became impossible due to the complications in Boston.
In an official statement, Nationals Park explained: “Due to complications with the previous show in Boston, Shakira’s full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time for her scheduled performance… Despite every effort to make it happen, it is not possible to move forward as planned.”
Shakira took to social media to share her heartbreak with fans: “I’ve been counting down the days to reunite with everyone in Washington and Boston. My team and I tried everything, but the situation was out of our hands. I’m truly devastated these shows couldn’t go on as planned. I promise I’ll be back with you as soon as I possibly can.”
As of now, there’s no official word on whether the Boston or D.C. shows will be rescheduled.
