Olympic track star Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested over the weekend following a heated confrontation at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, just days before competing in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
According to a police report obtained by CBS News, the 25-year-old sprinter was involved in an argument with a man at a TSA checkpoint on Sunday. Authorities say surveillance footage allegedly showed Richardson pushing the man, causing him to stumble into a nearby pillar. She also allegedly threw a pair of headphones at him as he attempted to walk away.
Officers responded to the scene and later booked Richardson at the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington. Jail records confirm she was released the following day. The man involved, who identified Richardson as his girlfriend, reportedly declined to press charges.
At the time of the incident, Richardson was en route to Eugene, Oregon, the host city for the championship meet, where she was scheduled to compete in the women’s 100-meter race. According to USATF race records, she successfully participated in the first-round heats on Thursday.
Neither Richardson nor her representatives have publicly commented on the arrest.
