Rod Wave has officially announced his departure from the music industry after facing intense criticism for repeatedly canceling shows on his Last Lap Tour… including one axed just an hour before showtime.
On Tuesday (January 28), fans heading to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville were blindsided when the venue suddenly announced the concert was postponed.
“Unfortunately, Rod Wave is unable to perform tonight,” the arena’s statement read on social media. “The show is being postponed to a later date. More details to follow.”
Frustrated concertgoers, many of whom had already endured a previous postponement from December 9, took to social media to vent.
“Rod Wave gotta do better,” one fan tweeted. “All these canceled shows are ridiculous.”
Another disappointed attendee called out the last-minute notice, saying, “He definitely owes Nashville an explanation. Canceling is one thing, but an hour before? At least give people 10 hours’ notice… some drove hours to get here.”
One fan who traveled nearly five hours to attend the concert wrote: “Upset isn’t even the word.”
The next morning (January 29), Rod Wave took to Instagram to announce he was stepping away from music… though he made no mention of the backlash over his canceled shows.
Instead, the “Heart on Ice” rapper revealed his plans to travel, fall in love, raise a family, and possibly return to school.
“Last Lap was smooth. Hell of a journey,” he wrote, tagging his late uncle and former manager, Uncle Dee, who passed away last year.
Rod Wave also addressed his critics, writing, “People drag my name and talk about me like a dog,” before thanking his loyal supporters.
“This ain’t goodbye, it’s simply see u later,” he continued. “Keep your head up and remember, as long as you got music, you’re not alone… Till we meet again.”
Shortly after making the announcement, Rod Wave deactivated his Instagram account, leaving fans wondering if and when he’ll make a comeback.
