Rod Wave breathes a sigh of relief as authorities drop the gun case against him, acknowledging that the charges were unfounded.
Reports from the Tampa Bay Times reveal that the rapper and singer, Rodarius Green, was released from custody on Wednesday (March 3), mere hours after his arrest on two counts of illegal firearm possession as a convicted felon.
Yolanda Fernandez, spokesperson for the St. Petersburg Police Department, confirmed late Wednesday that the initial arrest affidavit contained inaccuracies.
“He was apprehended based on charges that were later found to be unfounded, hence his release,” she stated. “The investigation remains active, and we are pursuing further arrests. Additional charges may be brought forward.”
Authorities have not disclosed the specific reasons behind the charges leveled against Rod Wave.
The probable cause affidavit cited a search of his Palmetto, Florida residence on Wednesday, where authorities purportedly discovered live ammunition and a handgun slide.
“The crux of the allegation was that ammunition was found on a kitchen surface near a folder containing documents with his name on them. That’s all,” remarked Rod’s attorney, Mark Rankin. “Such evidence is insufficient for a charge, let alone a conviction.”
Rankin also contested his client’s alleged felony conviction, stating, “A cursory online check of his record would reveal that he does not have a felony conviction. These are law enforcement officers who know how to verify criminal records.”
In the wake of this incident, Rod Wave can breathe easier, with the weight of unjust accusations lifted from his shoulders.
