A 105-year-old rare error penny sells online for $255. The penny that features President Abraham Lincoln is a 1917 penny that contains a rare doubled die error, causing it to be a collector’s item.
The rare doubled die error makes the penny’s letters, numbers, and images on some coins look like they were stamped twice.
The Professional Coin Grading Service estimates just 200 doubled die 1917 pennies have survived since the coin was produced.
The seller initially listed the coin for 99 cents. Eight bidders bid on the penny that cost one of the bidders $255.
