Russ, the Atlanta-via-New Jersey artist, has once again highlighted the lucrative potential of being an independent musician. In a recent social media post on October 13th, Russ proudly showcased his substantial six-figure earnings from his music catalog, all accumulated within the span of just one week.
In a tweet, Russ offered his fans valuable insights into how he generates substantial revenue from his music masters as an independent artist. One screenshot he shared revealed that his current music royalties amounted to an impressive $152,629.40, while another illustrated that his entire catalog had raked in $79,637.81.
Russ used these figures to inspire his fellow musicians, stating, “For inspirational purposes,” Russ began. “This is the money I made this week off just the masters of my independent catalog. It fluctuates weekly, obviously, but this is just to give insight. You do not need to be on the radio or signed or have the biggest album in the word to f**king cake. You have to have a lot of good music and own it, lol.”

He went on to explain his distribution methods, revealing that he utilizes two different distribution platforms, Vydia and TuneCore. Russ pointed out that his arrangements with both platforms are identical, allowing him to retain 100% of his earnings while paying a single annual fee for unlimited music uploads. Russ expressed a desire for more artists to grasp the value of building a music catalog instead of solely focusing on generating revenue from a single song.
