In a recent appearance on DJUTV, Cassidy, the Philadelphia rapper, claimed that he was responsible for Lil Wayne’s transformation into the best rapper alive. The 40-year-old rapper explained that before he came out, a lot of rappers used to rap differently, and he had made it mandatory to say something with his unique style of punching and being competitive and battle rapping on beat. Cassidy considers himself a culture shifter, and he believes that he inspired Lil Wayne to change his style of rapping.
Cassidy’s argument is not based on hearsay as he worked with Lil Wayne on “6 Minutes” with Fabolous back in 2005, and he witnessed firsthand Lil Wayne’s growth as a rapper. Cassidy acknowledges Lil Wayne’s place in Hip-Hop’s hierarchy but is quick to point out that he takes credit for the type of Wayne we have today.
Cassidy’s competitive disposition does not allow him to call Lil Wayne the best rapper, but he is aware of what Lil Wayne is capable of on wax. Cassidy’s claim may seem dismissive, but he wants everyone to know that Lil Wayne is one of his favorite rappers. By bringing a new style of rapping, Cassidy inspired Lil Wayne to grow and become the best rapper alive.
