A heartbreaking tragedy struck the hip-hop community Halloween night… Jabari “Baby Uiie” Henley, the son of well-known L.A. rap figure Eugene “Big U” Henley, was fatally shot late Friday in South Los Angeles.
Authorities say officers responded just after 11 PM to the area of 69th Street and Figueroa, where they discovered a 34-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite attempts to save his life, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators believe Jabari approached a vehicle when gunfire erupted. The shooter was reportedly standing near a smoke shop before fleeing the area. The suspect has still not been identified.
Graphic footage circulating online shows first responders arriving and covering Jabari after efforts to revive him failed.
Luce Cannon… a music figure who is incarcerated with Big U at the Metropolitan Detention Center… told TMZ he personally informed Big U of the devastating news.
Luce, who refers to Big U as his uncle, said both are shattered by Jabari’s murder but are leaning on faith while processing the loss from behind bars.
He also believes Jabari may have known the attacker personally. Police have not determined whether the shooting was gang-related.
Big U, a well-known name in Los Angeles street culture and the music business… previously connected to artists like Nipsey Hussle and Kurupt… is currently serving time after a federal case involving racketeering, embezzlement, extortion and fraud.
Jabari leaves behind his siblings… Big U is the father of two more sons and a daughter.
