Health experts are cautioning parents about the potential dangers of slushie drinks for young children due to glycerol intoxication syndrome. Glycerol, a common ingredient that prevents slushies from freezing solid, has been linked to symptoms like low blood sugar, dizziness, confusion, and even loss of consciousness in kids under eight.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) already advises that children under four avoid glycerol-containing slushies entirely, while kids aged five to ten should have no more than one per day. Researchers now warn that even children up to eight years old could be at risk.
Parents and health officials are urged to be aware of these risks and consider safer alternatives for younger children. Would you still let your child enjoy slushies?
