Outkast officially took their place in music history last night, as André 3000 and Big Boi were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame… solidifying the legacy of one of hip-hop’s most groundbreaking duos.
Actor and artist Donald Glover paid tribute to his fellow Atlanta icons during the induction, saluting their impact on Southern rap culture and pointing out that their double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below now stands as the best-selling rap album ever recorded.
The ceremony turned into a superstar celebration with an all-star tribute lineup. Janelle Monáe delivered “Hey Ya!,” Tyler, The Creator fired off an insane performance of “Bombs Over Baghdad,” and Doja Cat put her own twist on “Ms. Jackson.” Big Boi closed it down onstage joined by JID, Killer Mike, and Sleepy Brown for “The Way You Move.”
André 3000 got emotional during his acceptance… almost unable to speak through tears… telling the crowd: “Great things start in little rooms.”
A cultural milestone. A historic moment for Atlanta. Hip-hop wins again.
