New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was hospitalized early Sunday after being shot outside a Manhattan restaurant, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the case.
The source confirms Boyd suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Earlier, the NYPD said that a 29-year-old man had been taken to the hospital in serious condition, though police did not release Boyd’s identity at the time.
The Jets issued a brief statement acknowledging they’re “aware of the situation involving Boyd,” adding that the organization will not be commenting further for now.
The shooting reportedly unfolded around 2 a.m. ET near a restaurant on West 38th Street and 7th Avenue, after a confrontation escalated and two shots were fired.
Investigators say no arrests have been made, and the case remains active.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured two vehicles leaving a nearby parking garage moments before the confrontation.
According to the source, the occupants of those cars approached Boyd and his group before one individual opened fire and fled in one of the vehicles.
Authorities are now working to obtain full surveillance footage from the garage and have received some cooperation from witnesses at the scene.
iHearts143Quotes has reached out to Boyd’s representatives for additional comment.
