Toronto’s rap scene has produced some exceptional talent, including Drake, Tory Lanez, Belly, and Preme, among others. However, Nav, a prominent rapper, and producer, believes he deserves recognition as one of the city’s best, without a shadow of a doubt.
In a recent Instagram Story post, Nav confidently asserted his position among Toronto’s finest artists. While acknowledging the fierce competition, he made it clear that he considers himself part of the cream of the crop.
“I’m top 3 from my city. No debate,” he proudly declared. This isn’t the first time Nav has expressed strong opinions about his musical abilities. In 2018, he openly criticized XXL and its editor-in-chief for excluding him from that year’s Freshman List.
Nav believes that relying on a magazine for validation or to determine one’s musical prowess is unnecessary, especially when that publication’s credibility has been waning for a decade. He urged his fellow artists to create music for themselves and their fans without seeking approval from external sources.
“To my fellow artists,” he wrote on social media at the time. “We shouldn’t look to a magazine for validation or to tell us if we ‘hot or not,’ especially one that hasn’t been credible for ten years @xxl. Make music for yourself and your fans. I would never show up for the Freshman list cuz I don’t need their approval.”
