NASCAR phenom Connor Zilisch celebrated his sixth Xfinity Series win of the season with a scary mishap Saturday at Watkins Glen International.
The 19-year-old climbed onto his No. 88 Chevrolet to celebrate but slipped when his foot caught in the window netting, sending him headfirst to the ground. He was rushed to the hospital, where scans came back clear except for a broken collarbone.
“I’m out of the hospital and getting better already. Thankfully, my CT scans are clear. Just a broken collarbone… grateful it wasn’t worse,” Zilisch posted on social media, thanking medical staff for their quick response.
The injury sidelines him from Sunday’s Cup race, with his next Xfinity start set for Aug. 22 at Daytona. The dramatic moment capped a wild day that saw Zilisch battle back from fifth place to win for JR Motorsports.
