Muni Long recently opened up about her lightning-fast songwriting process, disclosing that she crafted a track for Rihanna in just ten minutes, likening the speed to the time it takes to warm up a baked potato.
In an exclusive conversation with Complex, which premiered on Friday (March 8), the talented artist behind “Made For Me” recounted the remarkable story, describing it as one of the smoothest experiences in her career.
Long initially thought the song was intended for Kelly Clarkson before its destiny took a different turn.
Reflecting on the moment, Long recalled being in Miami at the We The Best studio, collaborating with Jermaine Jackson of The Runners on the project. “They had the chords and everything ready,” she mentioned. “I listened, then went back into the room, and they handed me the file.”
Amidst the studio hustle, Long shared that she was multitasking, browsing for furniture online as she prepared for an upcoming move. This mundane task sparked the inspiration for the track’s title.
“I penned the song in about 10 minutes,” Long revealed. “I was like, ‘Crank up the volume, let me get this done quickly,’ so I could resume my furniture hunt.” Originally slated for Kelly Clarkson, the song took a surprising turn when Long returned two months later. Her publisher, Ryan Press, informed her that Rihanna was set to record it, sending waves of excitement through Long.
Earlier this year, Muni Long made waves on TikTok when she expressed dissatisfaction with her label’s decision to remove their music from the platform, capturing headlines and sparking discussions among fans and industry insiders alike.
