Imagine arriving at KinderCare Learning Center to pick up your 2-year-old child and noticing your child locked inside after workers left for the day. Well, for one mom, that’s just what happened.
Stephanie Martinez arrived at KinderCare Learning Center north of Miami at 6:28 p.m. to pick up her 2-year-old daughter, when she saw her daughter through a window on the front door, according to a Plantation Police Department incident report.
In a video of a 911 call, Martinez shared with NBC Miami, the room had no lights, and Martinez can be heard telling a dispatcher that she could see her daughter crying.
When the fire department got there they pried open the door and found the girl in good health, the report said.
Martinez told NBC Miami that her daughter is “super traumatized.”
Police learned that the care worker responsible for checking out children left at 6:20 p.m. and locked the doors, according to the report. A spokesperson for KinderCare said in a statement that they are “Thankful the child was quickly found and was safe, this incident should not have happened.”
