Hip-hop legend Method Man isn’t staying silent when it comes to unauthorized remixes of his work. In a now-deleted Instagram post, the Wu-Tang Clan rapper expressed his frustration over a YouTuber’s remix of his track “Built for This,” featured in The Man With the Iron Fists soundtrack.
The remix in question was created by DJ Skandalous, a YouTuber known for splicing together iconic tracks. His version of “Built for This,” which has amassed over 266 million views, significantly outperforms the original music video, which has just over 1.5 million views.
However, Skandalous’ remix takes liberties by removing Street Life, adding verses from Westside Connection, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, and 2Pac, while using a completely different beat.
Method Man wasn’t pleased. Sharing a screenshot of the remix, he voiced his discontent in a passionate caption:
“This guy, I asked him a long time ago to take this trash down as it takes views away from the original content,” Method Man wrote. “Over 200 million views, and not a penny to the creators.”
The rap icon continued, emphasizing the hard work that goes into creating music: “No one takes into account the time and effort it takes to make these records, let alone get them out to the public.
For someone to come and do half the work and get quadruple the views of the original content is disrespectful. Whatever happened to IP rights?”
Method Man also criticized how his voice is being used on beats he’d never choose, calling such remixes “hack sh*t” and pointing fingers at channels like South Central Channel, Golden Age Hip Hop, and New York’s Finest as major offenders.
He ended his post with a thought-provoking question to fans: “Am I wrong for standing up, or should I just sit down and shut the f**k up?”
