Walmart is urgently recalling over 850,000 Ozark Trail stainless steel water bottles after several horrifying incidents… including two people who were blinded for life when the bottles’ caps exploded off with force and struck them in the face.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the issue lies in the screw-top lid, which can suddenly pop off under pressure if the bottle was used to store food, carbonated drinks, juice, or milk. These unexpected eruptions can result in serious injuries, including impact trauma and deep cuts.
The CPSC has logged three injury reports, two of which involved permanent eye damage. The affected bottles are 64-ounce, silver with black lids, and feature the Ozark Trail logo. They’ve been sold at Walmart stores nationwide since 2017, priced at about $15.
Model number 83-662 can be found on the original packaging.
What to Do Now:
- Stop using these bottles immediately
- Return them to any Walmart location for a full refund
- Do not attempt to open if pressure has built inside
The bottles were manufactured in China, and the CPSC warns that using them with perishable or fizzy beverages increases the risk of dangerous pressure buildup.
