In a historic move to restore safety and economic stability, Mexican authorities have launched their biggest anti-extortion operation to date, taking down a criminal network tied to a powerful drug cartel.
The gang, based in the heart of the State of Mexico, had long terrorized businesses and workers across 14 municipalities. Their grip extended through construction, mining, agriculture, and delivery industries… where they used threats and union control to rake in illegal profits.
“This operation was critical to defending local businesses and protecting thousands of families from criminal abuse,” declared Mexico’s Security Secretary, Omar García Harfuch.
Known as Operation ‘Liberación’, the sweeping crackdown mobilized nearly 3,000 officers and included 52 simultaneous raids. Eight alleged ringleaders were arrested, dealing a major blow to the extortion empire.
Authorities also uncovered a trove of illicit assets: exotic animals, stolen livestock, luxury vehicles, construction materials, and large quantities of meat were seized in the raids.
García Harfuch emphasized this was “the largest anti-extortion strike in Mexico’s history,” setting a bold precedent for future efforts. “This shows what we can accomplish when justice, coordination, and political will align,” he added.
