A recent study has revealed that eating mangoes could play a role in lowering the risk of diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity. Published in the journal Nutrients, the study examined 48 overweight and obese adults aged 20 to 60 who had low-grade chronic inflammation. Participants were split into two groups: one consumed two cups of fresh mango daily, while the other had an equivalent calorie amount of Italian ice, a frozen dessert similar to sorbet.
After four weeks, those who ate mangoes showed a notable decrease in insulin resistance and significantly lower insulin levels compared to the beginning of the study. Meanwhile, the group that consumed Italian ice saw no such improvements.
Mangoes are packed with fiber, antioxidants, and natural compounds that may contribute to better blood sugar control. While the fruit is naturally sweet, its nutrients appear to promote metabolic health rather than causing the blood sugar spikes often associated with processed sugary treats.
