In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club podcast featuring Questlove and Black Thought, LL Cool J discussed a notable project that never saw the light of day: his joint album with 50 Cent. As anticipation builds for their upcoming joint tour, LL Cool J reminisced about his time working alongside the G-Unit icon.
The two artists embarked on an ambitious endeavor, creating an entire album through collaborative writing. LL Cool J unveiled, “I tried to do a more collaborative writing album. I did a whole album with 50 Cent. And we were writing together on this album. And when it was done, I listened to it. I’m like, ‘It sounds good, I like the music. It sounds cool – but it ain’t me.’ So I didn’t put it out.”
It’s important to note that this decision was not a reflection of any issues between LL Cool J and 50 Cent. LL Cool J expressed his deep respect for 50 Cent, clarifying, “It wasn’t nothing against 50. I love 50. I just wanted to try something different; maybe we collaborate, write together. It didn’t work.”
Elaborating on their relationship, LL Cool J emphasized their friendship: “We’ve tried to work together and that’s my man. We real cool. But the collaborative thing, when it comes to my verses, that doesn’t work for me.”
