In a candid conversation with Ray Daniels, legendary rapper and actor LL Cool J shared insights into his most challenging rap battles over his storied career. Having clashed with hip-hop heavyweights like Kool Moe Dee, MC Shan, MC Hammer, and Ice-T, LL Cool J revealed that it was Canibus who posed the greatest challenge.
Reflecting on the intense rivalry, LL Cool J admitted, “Out of all of them, Canibus was probably the toughest. He was a real pain. I was a bit more disconnected at that time, which made it much harder.
It felt like one of those Rocky movies where you’re driving through a tunnel in a Rolls-Royce, having flashbacks, and this Mr. T-type guy is in the basement spitting bars. That was the vibe.”
He continued, “It was like Canibus was constantly in my ear, biting at my heels while I was busy with other things, like working on sitcoms. I was like, ‘This is crazy!’ This guy was messing with me, bothering me at all hours.
Our culture doesn’t let you rest when you’re in a feud—they keep asking, ‘What are you going to do about it?’ So yeah, I’d say Canibus was the toughest.”
Despite the fierce battle between the two, LL Cool J no longer harbors any animosity towards Canibus. He concluded with a sentiment of goodwill, saying, “I wish him the best.”
This revelation sheds light on one of hip-hop’s most talked-about feuds and offers fans a deeper understanding of the pressures and challenges faced by one of rap’s greatest icons.
