Sam Rivers, the longtime bassist for the legendary nu-metal band Limp Bizkit, has passed away at the age of 48. The band announced his death on social media, calling him “pure magic” and “the soul in the sound.”
In their statement, the group reflected on Rivers’ impact on both their music and their lives… “From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous. He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends. And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory.”
The band did not release details about the cause or location of his passing. Frontman Fred Durst shared a deeply personal video on Sunday, recalling when he first met Rivers at a Jacksonville Beach club before the group skyrocketed to global fame. Durst said he has shed “gallons and gallons of tears since yesterday.”
“He really did have an impact on the world, and his music and his gift are going to keep on giving,” Durst added. “I just love him so much.”
