In a recent interview at Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians event in Brooklyn, New York, Lil Yachty expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of the hip-hop genre. The rapper went as far as describing the situation as “terrible.”
According to Yachty, the predominant issues in today’s hip-hop landscape revolve around a prevalence of imitation and the release of subpar musical content. He emphasized the influx of quick, low-quality music that contributes to the overall decline in the genre’s quality.
“Hip-hop is in a terrible place,” Yachty declared, pointing out the lack of risk-taking and originality in contemporary hip-hop. He lamented the industry’s inclination towards safety, stating, “It’s a lot less risk-taking, it’s a lot less originality. People are too safe now. Everyone is so safe. I’d rather take the risk than take the L.”
Lil Yachty’s candid remarks shed light on his concerns about the current trends in hip-hop, where he calls for more creativity, risk, and originality in the genre. The rapper’s perspective reflects a desire for a more dynamic and innovative landscape within the hip-hop community.
